It has now almost been a year since our first rehearsal and the progress the choir has made is nothing short of remarkable. We have performed to thousands of people and are proud to say that we have embodied all that Ndlovu stands for and have strived spread the Ndlovu message to whoever we are privileged enough to perform to.
Our first ever performance was at the University of Pretoria where we shared the stage with some of our lands finest choirs. Our boisterous performance received a rapturous applause and the smiles and looks of satisfaction on each and every chorister’s face was a tribute to all the Ndlovu staff who worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the choir. This performance was followed up by numerous performances at our very own Miracle Theatre, a professional musical production of the play ‘Amandla’ with a Dutch cast, a performance at the Tshwane Youth Arts Festival which was held at the State Theatre, a performance in the Miracle with the World Music Band, a performance at Gallagher Estate on World AIDS Day and a performance at our own World AIDS Day celebrations at the Miracle.
In October the Miracle became the only official examination centre for the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (U.K) in Limpopo and Mpumalanga. We entered two candidates into the exam and I am pleased to announce that Thabo Mosoma achieved 94% and Sipho Hleza received and an astonishing mark of 100%. These were independently marked in London (U.K) and we are very proud of this fantastic achievement.
After a very successful 2009 we are working tirelessly to ensure that we go from strength to strength in 2010. In February we performed for officials from Limpopo province in the Miracle and this has resulted in the choir being invited to perform for Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe in Polokwane on Saturday 6 March. This will be followed up by two performances in the Menlyn Shopping centre where we will be sharing the stage with an impressive line-up of South African celebrities. The choir has also been approached by a well known Dutch band to record a Dutch supporter’s song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
All that has been achieved would not be possible had it not been for the hard work and dedication of all the Ndlovu staff. I would like to single out Nonhlanhla Ndlovu for her tremendous dedication and passionate support for the choir. The support from the rest of the NAAP staff was also instrumental in the success of the choir.
I look forward to many more wonderful performances and musical memories at Ndlovu.
Choral Greetings,
Ralf
