Celebrating World Cerebral Palsy Day 2018

Every year the 5th of October is observed as World Cerebral Palsy day and to celebrate this special occasion, the team from Joris House held a workshop to educate parents and caregivers on what Cerebral Palsy is, its different types, what causes it and how to live with and treat people living with it.

Many topics were covered in the discussions, Ms Elaine Maluleke, a speech therapist from Philadelphia Hospital was also invited to share more information on proper feeding patterns and stimulating the mind of someone living with cerebral palsy, while Eric Nkoana, the in-house occupational therapist for Joris House held a practical workshop on interacting with and stimulating their bodies, he also stressed the importance of parents accepting the condition of their children and preparing themselves both physically and emotionally to be able to deal with the pressures that come with such responsibilities.
