The Friends of Loskop is a Non Profit Organisation with aim to assist the National Parks Board as much as possible to preserve the Loskop Dam Nature Reserve.

For the past few years the Friends of Loskop have been actively involved in the upliftment of OVC’s enrolled in the Ndlovu Childen’s Program.

FoL offers an extensive Environmental Awareness Programme on the Reserve. As a special expansion of the program that is offered to the schools in the vicinity, the Ndlovu OVC’s are also imparted with comprehensive life-skills programs, specially designed to equip them with coping mechanisms regarding grief and trauma.

Trained and experienced councillors (Vochelli’s) assist OVC’s with specially developed games to come to terms with their orphaned status and teach them how to deal with the daily problems and more importantly, to install a sense of belonging that is desperately needed. OVC’s that have been interviewed said that they needed some-one to tell their problems to.  The facilitators are equipped to deal with exactly such delicate and involved requirements.

Non-registered OVC’s that attend the Fol Environmental Programme are identified and referred to the Ndlovu team to be enrolled in the Ndlovu Chlidren’s Program for monitoring, evaluation and assistance.

A life skills camp is being built in the Loskop Dam Nature Reserve for the  overnight accommodation of the OVC’s during school holidays and should be ready to be taken into use before the end of 2009.  This will facilitate life skills  training to an optimum level.
